Ruben Harlow “did entice and seduce Scipea a Negro man servant…to supply…Ruben with meat, drink, washing, and lodging in a secret and clandestine way at the house of…[Isaac] Thomas” of Plymouth. And because Harlow “did entice and seduce” Scipea to commit “several thefts” of “goods and money”, Scipea was in jail and Thomas was “deprived of the benefit of his servant and greatly impoverished in his estate”.

The suit was brought to recover “damages for corrupting” Scipea. And Thomas wanted compensation not only for the lost goods and money but for the lost access to Scipea’s labor and time.
